The final report of the second symposium of water resources policymakers entitled “Food Security and Sustainable Governance of Water Resources”

The second symposium of water resources policymakers entitled Food Security & Sustainable Governance was held in the Fajr Hall of the Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization on Thursday, March 3, 2016, with the participation of the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, Amirkabir University of Technology, Environmental Protection Organization and Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Tehran Agricultural Mines. Dr. Boroumand, Vice Chancellor for Research at Amirkabir University of Technology, at the inauguration of this symposium, referring to the determination of Amirkabir University of Technology in introducing and reducing sustainable development in the country, said: Food security is one of the main policy axes of the most important concerns of today’s societies. Therefore, paying attention to the possible problems and difficulties in this field is the concern of the social institutions of the communities. In another part of his speech, he added: the government should have careful planning to reduce water consumption and this planning should be operational and not a slogan so that we reduce a certain percentage of our water consumption annually.
In her speech, Dr. Mazaheri, Vice-Chancellor for Education and Research of Amirkabir University of Technology, pointed to the ecological footprint and, while introducing these two concepts, asked all organizations related to food and water security to pay attention to these two important categories and Also consider environmental pollution and do not depend on environmental pollution to achieve their goals.

This symposium ended at 16:30 after holding three specialized panels of the Environmental Protection Organization, the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture and the Ministry of Energy.

The first symposium of water resources policy makers entitled “Productivity and sustainable governance of water resources”

The symposium of water resources policymakers entitled “Productivity and the sustainable governance of water resources” was held on January 15, 2015 by the Amirkabir University of Technology at the Conference Center of the Ministry of Energy.

Hamshahrionline:

According to IRNA, Masoumeh Ebtekar in the first symposium of water resources policymakers, which was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of Energy under the title of productivity and the sustainable governance of water resources, added: “Forecasts of global science centers indicate continued drought and water scarcity in various parts of the world, especially the Middle East.” She said that the phenomenon of drought should be considered as a reality in all macro and strategic plans of the country, adding that this situation is a Great warning and a low carbon economy is under development. She considered global warming as another warning and said: “Global warming is expected to increase by one degree and in this regard, all countries are required to present strategies to reduce greenhouse gases, and in our country, for this purpose, low-carbon economy is under development.” Emphasizing the need to formulate and implement solutions to deal with the effects of global warming, Ebtekar added: “We have paid less attention to this issue in scientific foundations and executive and strategic policies, while one of the principles of strategic management is defining the vision and planning for the future.” “The ground must be prepared for the people so that they do not worry about the future,” she said.

Referring to the water crisis in a large part of the country, Ebtekar said: “Dealing with the water crisis in the country requires a change of attitude in water consumption management, and holding such conferences will help this intellectual revolution and formulate executive policies.” She announced the drafting of a wetlands bill in the 11th government and said: “Fortunately, in addition to a critical view of the water and the environment, the Council of Ministers also has special support for these sectors and is trying to modify and implement the implementation policy by drafting a wetlands bill.” One-way water transfer schemes help preserve wetlands. She defined the right of nature water to provide natural services to provide water resources for agriculture, industry, and drinking and added: this water right should be considered sustainably so that nature can continue its services. Emphasizing the need to protect the country’s wetlands, the Vice President said: “With the positive view of the government next year, a suitable credit line has been allocated for Hamoon, Bakhtegan, Parishan and especially Lake Urmia wetlands, which shows the government’s special view on water and environment.” Is biological. Emphasizing that we must transfer the evolution of the water sector to all levels of the country’s economy and decision-making, Ebtekar said: “We must first start from the scientific foundations and look at this evolution in policies and programs; Because this is an interconnected cycle.” She considered environmental assessment as the main strategy for compatibility of development with the environment and continued: “This bill is on the agenda of the government and its generals have been approved.” The first national conference of water resources policymakers entitled “Sustainable productivity and governance of water resources” today (Thursday) with the presence of Hamid Chitchian, Minister of Energy, Hesamuddin Ashna, Cultural Advisor to the President, Masoumeh Ebtekar, Head of Department of Environment, Mahmoud Hojjati, Minister of Jihad Agriculture, Morteza Shahidzadeh, CEO of Keshavarzi Bank and Seyed Ahmad Motamedi, President of Amirkabir University of Technology were held at the Ministry of Energy Conference Center. This conference aims to address the water crisis in order to identify challenges in the field of water resources and provide practical solutions for use in the Sixth Development Plan and with the support of the Industrial Engineering and Productivity Research Center and the AUT’s Office of Sustainability, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, Department of Environment, Tehran Municipality, Agricultural Bank and Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture of Tehran and Iran. Water resources management, economic aspects of water, social aspects of water, environmental aspects of water, institutional, legal, and structural aspects of water, and aspects of culture, education, information are the main axes of this symposium.
