Building Information Modeling (BIM) Lab

In recent decades, construction industry has been confronted a great deal of challenges, such as low productivity and return on investment in comparison with other industries, gradual increment of labor cost, unforeseen costs due to lack of coordination among different stakeholders, time consuming change management and so forth. All above, led the industry to develop some new fields including computer science and integrated project delivery systems. “Building Information Modeling (BIM)” is one of the most newfound significant concepts for these challenges. The main aim of BIM is to configure a 3 dimensional model comprising whole project life cycle data in accessible and integrated information flow. BIM is a process that involves creating and using an intelligent 3D model to inform and communicate project decisions. Design, visualization, simulation, and collaboration enabled by BIM solutions provide greater clarity for all stakeholders across the project lifecycle. BIM makes it easier to achieve project and business goals.

 

Considering importance of this matter, “Building Information Modeling (BIM)” group was established with duty of implementing BIM concepts in any new construction at Amirkabir University of technology. Furthermore, based on these concepts, BIM group have focused on a set of target issues:

1.      Dissemination of knowledge in related academic, technical and social contexts.

2.      Providing BIM consulting services in different construction projects.

3.      Holding workshops and short term educational courses concentrating on BIM softwares and workflows
