Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) has chosen the strategy of “pioneer of sustainable development in Iran,” for the next decade. In 2003, the decision was made that AUT would become a “Green University.” Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Faculty of AUT established a MS degree of EE in 2003. At the same time, the name of the “Civil Engineering Faculty” was changed to the “Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Faculty”. The main objectives of the EE program at AUT are to provide environmental and development education for the students who have different backgrounds (Civil engineering, Chemical engineering (CE), Mechanical engineering and so on) at the graduate level and to help them achieve sustainable livelihoods. Office of Sustainability stablished on July 2011. The activities contribute to AUT's campus by reducing energy & water consumbtion and waste generation, also student coursework, volunteer opportunities for students, as well as research and education academic activities on sustainable development.
The mission of the AUT’s Office of Sustainability is to make the Amirkabir University of Technology– in its operations, education, research, and outreach – a model of sustainable development, integrating the goals of economic development, environmentalpolicy and social equity. The Office of Sustainability takes an integrated approach to sustainability that incorporates teaching, research, operations and the outreach services needed to support them.
